Charles J. Burmeister
May 19, 1930 - December 7, 2022
Charles J. Burmeister, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2022 at age 92.
Chuck was born in Omaha NE but lived in Wahoo NE until he entered UNL.
Chuck earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and ranked second in his graduating class.
While finishing his business degree through the University of Nebraska’s ROTC program, he received a commission as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and spent two years in Japan as a legal officer in the Judge Advocate Department. After being discharged, he returned to Nebraska where a job awaited him at First Trust Company.
The Investment Department of First Trust departed and formed a new company, First Mid America, where he served as President. Chuck was the first Nebraska member of the New York Stock Exchange. He was also a member of the American Stock Exchange, New York Coffee and Sugar Exchange, Chicago Stock Exchange, and the Kansas City Board of Trade.
Memberships and recognitions include Delta Upsilon, Phi Delta Phi, Eastridge Presbyterian, 1997 Mayor's Leadership Award, Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Association and Foundation, Lied Center for Performing Arts Capital Campaign, and Public Radio Foundation.
Throughout his life, Chuck was an avid traveler. He traveled to thirty-one countries including Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Monaco, Costa Rica, and Antarctica.
As a boy, Chuck was active in Boy Scouts, and achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was passionate about scouting and introduced his sons to it. This resulted in a 46-year relationship with the fathers of several boys. They called themselves “The Wilderness Society.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marita, sons Jon (Jackie) and Blaine (Abby), grandson Jack (fiancée Megan), and granddaughters Maggie, Hannah, Annie, and Katie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Genevieve, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13th, 2022 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 13th, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
