September 2, 1921 – February 23, 2021
Anna Elmira (Stoudt) Hughes passed away February 23, 2021 at The Legacy, Assisted Living, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of ninety-nine. Anna was born September 2, 1921, in Kensington, Minnesota, as the first child of George and Esther (Wilhelm) Stoudt. The Stoudt Family moved to Hastings, Minnesota, in 1922, where, in 1939, Anna would graduate from Hastings High School. Growing up on the family farm with eight younger brothers and sisters taught Anna a valuable lesson in responsibility. She excelled in math, shorthand, and typing, which earned her a place on the honor roll.
On December 26, 1940, Anna married Willard H. Hughes. The very next day, the couple moved to Southeastern Nebraska where Anna would live the rest of her life; seventy-five of those years were in Lincoln. Anna and Willard had two children, Shirley Ann and Donald Ross. Family was important to Anna, as well as her work as an executive secretary for the University of Nebraska Agricultural Extension Service. After retirement in 1970, Anna enjoyed her home extension group and serving her church. She was well-known as a wonderful cook, a gracious hostess, and for her abilities in clothing design and construction. Anna is admired and loved by many as a strong, determined, and resourceful woman. She is cherished and missed by her family.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Ruth Chanberlain, Elsie Powers, Edith Chamberlain, and Helen Komorouski; brothers, John Stoudt and Paul Stoudt.
Anna is survived by her two children; daughter, Shirley (Ted) Hinrichs, of Albert Lea, MN, and son, Donald (Barbara) Hughes, of Ceresco, NE; five grandchildren, Todd Hinrichs, Marcie Haes, Michele Norgaard, Hans Hinrichs, and Marc Hughes; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Finegan, of Spring Park, MN; brother, George Stoudt, of Hastings, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to HoriSun Hospice, especially nurse Robin, and to the staff at The Legacy. Memorials are suggested to the Hormel Institute for Cancer Research, 801 16th Ave NE Austin, Mn, https://www.hi.umn.edu/donate , or to the family for future designation.
