Vera M. Mauk, 94, of Cridersville, died at 6:03 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1916 in Allen County to John L. and Jennie G. (Musser) Stiles who preceded her in death. On Oct. 21, 1951, she married Francis “Frank” Mauk, who died on April 5, 1989.
Mrs. Mauk had been employed by the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army W.A.C., serving stateside from January of 1943 to November of 1944 as a 2nd lieutenant . She graduated on May 24, 1935, from Auglaize Rural High School, Harrod. She loved to read and enjoyed all of nature: flowers, birds, trees and animals. She had a great and loving interest in her nieces and nephews and their families.
Surviving are 3 siblings: Ronald Stiles, Jack (Marilyn) Stiles and Joan McBeth all of Lima; two sisters-in-law: Janet Mauk and Sue Mauk both of Lima; and a brother-in-law, William Placie of Lima, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Hohman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis. Visitation will be on Tuesday from Noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cridersville Library or the American Cancer Society.
