She was born April 16, 1955 in Lima, the daughter of the late John L. and Martha Lee Nettles Sims. Shelley was a graduate of Lima Senior High School. She was a homemaker. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She enjoyed bingo, plants, cooking, attending church, and gospel music. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Bengals fan. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind three children Sherlina (Andre) Ramsey, Glen (Jami) Macklin, and Crandon Macklin all of Lima, five grandchildren: LeAndrea, Mahasin, Kelsie, Kalisha, and Kiegh, and siblings Ruby Sims, John L. (Linda) Sims Jr., Melvin (Cheryl) Sims, Armin (Charles) Petty, and Ernest Sims, all of Lima, Joe L. Sims of Maryland, Betty Sims, and Carolyn Sims both of Lima, and Jonathan “Tony” Long of Maryland; a special aunt, Earlean Nettles of Lima; and her former husband, Glen Macklin, Sr. of Lima.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Roy Sims and James Sims Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, at Grace Church Worldwide Ministries with Pastor Ronald Fails officiating, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Shelley had battled kidney disease and endured dialysis treatments for 16 years; the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the Lima Memorial Hospital Foundation in memory of Shelley A. Sims Macklin.
