Rhoda (Hale) Sweeny

Rhoda (Hale) Sweeny, 88, of Lima, died at 12:40 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 10, 1923, in Magoffin County, KY, to Willie & Julie Ann (Nolan) Hale who preceded her in death. In 1927, her family moved to Floyd County, KY. On April 23, 1947, she married Edward N. Sweeny, who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1993.

Mrs. Sweeny retired from St. Rita’s Dietary Department in 1988 after 20 years of service. She also worked at the Lima Army Tank Plant during World War II. Mrs. Sweeny attended Lima Baptist Temple for over 40 years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce (Joe) Sturgill and Penny (Don) Sheridan both of Lima; three grandchildren: Julie Ann Sturgill, Joe (Julia) Sturgill, Jr., and Jerry Hinkle; one step grandson, Doug (Pam) Sturgill, three step granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren: Summer Sturgill, Luca Sturgill and Griffin Sturgill; a sister, Eva Chaffins of Floyd County, KY and a favorite niece, Bonne Faulkner of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by five siblings: Dovie Patrick, Carrie “Pat” Rodriquez, Josephine Faulkner, Andy Hale and Emogene Hale.

Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 29, at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Hohman officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
