Orval Gene Benroth, 62, of Columbus Grove, died at 12:22 p.m., Friday, December 31, 2010, at Lima Memorial Health Systems. He was born on May 1, 1948, in Lima, to Noland Eugene and Margaret Alene (Follas) Benroth who preceded him in death. On May 12, 2001, he married Millie Diane Smith who survives
Mr. Benroth had been a self-employed insurance agent providing Medicare supplements in the area. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Lima, and had served a mission for the church in Northern California. He recently restored a 1940’s Ford 8N tractor and was proud of his accomplishment. He enjoyed motorsports including three-wheelers and dirt bikes. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are five children: Dane (Yuka) Benroth of Elizabethtown, KY, Kathryn “Katie” (Joshua) Colonel of Amelia, OH, Joseph Benroth, Madeline Benroth and Samuel Benroth all of Cincinnati; two stepchildren: Crystal (Jeremy) Opdycke of Stryker and Joel (Nicki) Stier of Archbold; three siblings: Nona (Jim) Baber of Lima, Gale Benroth of Salt Lake City, UT and Thea (Dan) Caron of Senecaville, OH; three grandchildren: William, Henry and Grant Colonel; and two stepgrandchildren: Abbi and Robert Opdycke.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Dr. David Woodruff officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for his two youngest children, Madeline and Samuel.
