Eric “Rick” Brent Mericle, 62, of Lima, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19, 2015. He was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Van Wert, to Charles Tyrus and Helen Lois (Keller) Mericle. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Lima. On Oct. 12, 1974, he married Theresa Sue Kleman who survives.
Also surviving are two children: Dawn (Kevin Demis) Mericle of Sylvania and Eric (Bethany) Mericle, II of Lima; five grandchildren: Jeremy Parent, Gretta Parent, Claire Mericle, Gwen Mericle and Brenden Mericle; and three siblings: Sheryl Long of Newark, Charlene (Steve) Sabo of Ocala, FL and Tracy Mericle of Lima. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha Kleman of Lima; brother-in-law, Tom (Dede) Kleman of Temperance, MI; sisters-in-law: Dolores (Larry) Rupert and Laura (Jerry) Storer both of Lima, Pat Swygart of Tiffin and Crystal (Shawn) Adkins of Upper Sandusky.
A sister, Candy Gast, father-in-law, Harold Bernard Kleman, and a brother-in-law, Steve Kleman, preceded him in death.
Rick was self-employed as the owner of Mericle Electric and was a former electrical instructor at Apollo Career Center. He was actively involved with the ministries at Lima Rescue Mission and the Allen County Jail. He was a 1970 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He was a member of the N.F.P.A., N.R.A., the Cairo Sportsman’s Club and Grace Fellowship Church.
He was a devoted husband to his “lovely lady” and adored his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 1-3, and 5-7 p.m. in Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, where services will begin at 7 p.m. following visitation, with Rev. Nathan Branim officiating. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery.
