Edith Elaine Yates, 81, of Lima, died at 6:10 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 17, 1932, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Victor and Grace Anderson Hartinger who preceded her in death. On Nov. 12, 1955, she married William W. Yates, who survives.
Mrs. Yates completed Nurses’ training and was employed at Santa Monica Veteran’s Hospital and then St. Rita’s Hospital. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a volunteer teacher for the Northwest Ohio Literacy Council. She was a Roman Catholic and an avid bowler, golfer and bridge player.
Also surviving are two daughters: Kathleen (Bryan) Burkholder of Lima and Natalie (Josh) Othniel of Independence, KS; grandchildren: Nathan (Laura) Burkholder, Nick Burkholder, Noah Burkholder, Nolan Burkholder, Ephraim Othniel, Ben (Michalah) Othniel and Arielle (Patrick) Gustafson; three great-grandchildren and two brothers: Jack Hartinger of Rapid City, SD and Donald Hartinger of Mobridge, SD.
She was preceded in death in 1978 by a son, Timothy Yates.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at St. Rose Catholic Church, with Fr. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, from 4-8 p.m., at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home.
