Donald Olen Dunlap, 79 of Lima died 7:15 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on August 12, 1931 in Westboro, Missouri to William Olen and Cleadith (Mounce) Dunlap and they preceded him in death. He was first married to Elizabeth A. Miller in 1952 and she passed away on Jan. 18, 1995. On April 28, 2001 he married Maralynn Jeanne Young and she survives.
He is also survived by his children: Don (Chris) Dunlap of Grand Junction, CO, John (Theresa) Dunlap of Elida, Eileen (Tom)Zwiebel of St. Marys, Lisa Howe and Dean (Betty) Dunlap both of Lima. His stepchildren: Linda (Charles) Ausman of Cincinnati, Richard (Lynne) Erb of Reistertown, MD, James (Marja) Erb and Joyce (Kevin) Harrod both of Lima, D avid (Linda) Erb of St. Marys, Ellen (Tom) Klofta of Belle Center and Nancy (Michael) Stevely of Illinois. His Grandchildren: Kristin, Eric, Rachelle, Jeremy, Colleen, Mindy, Megan, Taylor, Dean Jr, and Elizabeth. His step grandchildren: Lynne, David, Jennifer, Scott, Jillian, Kaitlin, Joy, Justin, Michael, Kayla, Sommer, Josh, Ty, Drew, Jarod, Angie, Nicole, Codey and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy (Harold) McWilliams of Syracuse, Neb, Marylee (Monty) Pearson of Martinsville, IN.
Mr. Dunlap retired from BP Chemicals working as a Mechanic, in 1993 after 38 years of service. He was a Korean Army veteran. He was a life member of the Lima VFW Post # 1275, a life member of the American Legion Post 96 and a member of the Lima FOE Aerie 370. He was the best Euchre player, had been actively involved in the Relay for Life, he was a wonderful husband, father and PaPa. His church, Westside UMC meant the world to him and he sang with the Monica Steven Singers. He had worked as a maintenance worker for the Sharon Park UMC and he sang in the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Westside UMC with Pastor Bill Cronk officiating and burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery where there will be graveside military rites conducted by the Lima VFW Post 1275.
Family and friends may call Monday, April 4 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, to St. Rita’s Hospice or to Westside UMC.
