David L. Neth, 88, of Lake Wales, FL and formerly of Lima, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lake Wales, on Thursday, August 31, 2017. He was born November 25, 1928, in Lima, Ohio to the late Louis and Alice (Wood) Neth.
He was a veteran of the U.S Marines and was employed for 38 years at the Standard Oil Lima Refinery. He also consulted for British Petroleum for a short period of time in Seoul, S. Korea. He was a very active member of the Lima Power Squadron. During David’s tenure with the Lima Power Squadron David reached the level of “SN”, Senior Navigator. David successfully completed 13 courses to reach the “SN” level, and went onto teach many of the courses as well to other boaters. The National Power Squadron considers members such as David to be very valuable to the organization, as he took the time to teach and foster a sense of safe boating, helping numerous other people enjoy the water safely.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Arthur, Jan, Daniel, and sister Ann Decker. David is also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia A. (McClintock) Neth of 38 years.
He is survived by his second wife of 24 years, Rita Neth; son David A Neth and wife Linda of Lima; daughter Deborah Rauh and husband Douglas of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren Trevor Neth of Columbus, OH, Aaron Rauh and wife Monisha, of Washington, DC, Susan Rauh of Avon, CO, and great grandson Bodhan Rauh, of Washington, DC. Rita’s children are David Chapski (deceased) and wife Lisa of Cleveland, OH, Karen (Chapski) Glenn and husband Dan of Bowling Green, OH ans Scott Chapski of Strongsville, OH; grandchildren: Robert Chapski, Melissa Chapski of Cleveland, OH, Alyssa (Glenn) Goncalves and Joel Glenn of Cleveland, OH, Mallory Glenn of Bowling Green, OH, Rachel Chapski of Strongsville, OH and great grandson Eli, of Cleveland, OH.
Friends may visit Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, Thursday, September 7 from 6-8 PM (506 North Cable Rd., Lima, Ohio 45805)
His funeral service will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at First Evangelical and Reformed Church, 320 West Wayne St., Lima, with Pastor Larry Blunden officiating. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service, with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard and V.F.W. Post 1275.
