Richard “Rick” Hoyt Young, 77 of Flowery Branch passed away Aug 5, 2021, following a sudden illness. The oldest of three children, Rick was born in Patterson, NJ, Jan 21, 1944, while his Father was serving in the Navy in WWII. As a child his family relocated to Miami, FL and he was a graduate of Hialeah High School. After graduation Rick held various occupations before becoming a Paramedic/Firefighter and retired as a Lieutenant with the Hialeah Fire Department. Rick started bowling at a young age and became an excellent bowler qualifying to compete in the Professional Bowlers Association Tour where he earned many cash awards and trophies. Rick was an avid deep sea & offshore fisherman and enjoyed rebuilding classic cars. Rick volunteered with a local Food Pantry and was an active member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the TLP group. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, David & Elizabeth Lewis Young. He is survived by his wife, Carla Swafford Young, a son Richard H. Young Jr. (Sue), two daughters, Heather Paul (Josh), and Cassandra Miller (Jim). Three stepchildren, Jill Friends (Nathan), Caleb Rumbaugh(Cory), and Benjamin Rumbaugh. Nine Grandchildren, William, Zoe, Cayleann, Kali, Neva, Carlie, Lane, Noah and Rhett, One Great Grandchild, Rylee and siblings Nancy Smith (Steve) and Don Young (Ann) as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
