Laurence Christopher Harris, aged 88, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024. Born on January 27, 1936 to the late Edward William and Virgie Landrum Harris in St. Augustine, FL. Larry spent his early childhood in the Old City before moving to Atlanta. He grew up in the southwest area of the city, graduating from Joseph Brown High School in 1954. He enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology, working his way through college to earn a business degree.
Shortly before graduating from Tech, he married his high school sweetheart, Angela Allison Harris, who preceded him in death, and they raised three children together. They were active members at The Church of the Incarnation in southwest Atlanta, where they married and taught Sunday school.
Larry enjoyed a long and successful career in the printing business, first working in sales at his father’s firm, General Lithographing Company in Atlanta, alongside his late brother Edward William Harris Jr. Larry later co-founded and ran his own company, Graphic Fine Color in Doraville, before selling it to a larger firm. In between tenures at the family firms, he worked as a printing broker for several years, often doing business with his nephew Edward William Harris III. Later in his career, Larry moved into the mortgage and then the insurance brokerage business, where he worked up until his passing.
In his younger years, Larry worked part-time as a model and graced billboards, newspaper ads, and brochures for insurance companies and airlines, among others. A strong advocate of physical fitness, he exercised regularly and remained active up until the end, preferring to walk to the post office rather than drive.
In 1996, he married Lynda Paramoure in New York City. Together, they enjoyed many years of travel together and became active members of The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. As a lifelong Episcopalian, Larry took special joy in the services at the Cathedral.
In addition to his wife Lynda, Larry is survived by his children, Allyson Harris and her husband Paul Uzee, Tracy Harris Cain and her husband Ernest Cain, and Laurence Christopher Harris Jr. and his wife Kristy; his sister Judy Harris; six grandchildren, Natalie and Jake Uzee, Ernest and Maggie Cain, and Anna and Lauren Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. in the Mikell Chapel at The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s memory to The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30305.
