home in Loganville, GA from complications of Lewy Body Dementia,
with her husband of 61 years, Jerald (Jerry), by her side. A memorial
service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Advantage Funeral Home &
Cremation Services in Lilburn, GA; visitation with the family an hour
prior to and immediately following the service.
Jean was born in Chicago, IL to Frederick Nicholas and Elizabeth
McArthur Buedel. She graduated from Loretto High School,
Englewood, IL 1959. Jean and Jerry met in 1957 at a wedding which
both attended, and were married October 10, 1959.
Children followed quickly with eldest John born in Evanston, IL, and Elizabeth (Beth),
William (Billy) and Robert (Bobby) born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the family resided for
eight years. The family relocated for a time to Mason City, Iowa before finally settling in
Roswell, Georgia in the summer of 1971.
After getting the youngest off to school, Jean began a career of her own, establishing a
needle craft shop, The Stitchin’ Post, on Canton Street in the historic district of Roswell. There
she established not only a retail shop, but taught all manner of needle craft, knitting, crochet,
needle point, etc. Jean was a versatile volunteer, at home as a cheerleader for the extra-curricular
activities of all her children, serving also as a Cub Scout Den Mother for the boys. She also
volunteered with Fulton County Parks and Recreation teaching needlework to the senior
community. Jean will be remembered fondly by the many life-long friendships she cherished
over the years.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick N. and Elizabeth McArthur Buedel,
brother Frederick A. Buedel, and daughter-in-law, Joyce Finkernagel Lynch. She is survived by
her husband, Jerry; children John (Janet), Beth (Chris) Owens, Billy (Kim) and Bobby (Khanh);
eleven grand-children and five great grand-children; sister Mary Ellen (Mike) Vrankin, brother
Anthony (Carole) and sister-in-law Diane (Frederick A.) Buedel. The family extends its sincere
gratefulness to Taylor Culp who has been providing loving care to Jean these past several
months.
