David Michael Jones, 75, of Lilburn, GA, passed away on January 22, 2024. He was born on June 14, 1948, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. David, known to his family and friends as Dave, was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.
Dave is survived by his wife, Shannon, his son, Brian, his mother, Rosanne, his sisters Joellen Kelly and Karen Isenberg, his brother Steve Jones, his niece, Julie Bright, and his nephew and niece, Daniel and Inga Bright, and their daughter Kristen. He was preceded in death by his son, David Michael Jones II, and his father, John Jones.
Dave proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. As a US Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, he demonstrated bravery and dedication to his country.
After his military service, Dave embarked on a successful career. He opened a precision machine shop, DJ Machining, which initially operated from his house but later moved to a new building in the Lilburn Industrial Park. His exceptional skills as a machinist and problem solver attracted clients ranging from large corporations to Fortune 500 members, including Rock Tenn, NCR, and Dominoes, among many others. Dave's expertise and reputation made him highly sought after in the industry. Eventually, he sold his business and ventured into the towing industry, starting his own company called About Town Towing. Following his towing business, Dave worked as security for the Art Institute of Atlanta and later became the Lead Security for the Gwinnett County Public Schools Administrative Building from which he eventually retired.
Dave's faith played an important role in his life. He was a member of One Mission Church, formerly known as Lilburn Alliance Church, where he served for a time in the AWANA program as well as one of the counters for the Sunday offerings. Dave often put into practice the words of Jesus, "Love your neighbor" as he helped neighbors and strangers in need.
A memorial service to celebrate Dave's life will be held at The Chapel at One Mission Church on January 30, 2024, at 3:00 PM. Following the service, a police-escorted processional will lead to the interment, where a military tribute will be paid to honor Dave's service to his country.
