Daniel Charles Dougherty was born in Orlando, Florida on August 31, 1976. He passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Marianne K. Rogers, his grandfather, Charles Kayser, his grandmother, Elizabeth Marshall, as well as his pets that meant so much to him, Aussie, Sierra, Chewy, Maggie, Sleepy and Marino. Dan is survived by his wife Jamila Pope Dougherty of Smyrna, his daughter Hannah Taylor Dougherty of Marietta, brother Nic Rogers of Marietta, aunts Kathy Chartier of Columbia, South Carolina and Charlene Skidmore of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his beloved fur-babies - Phinny, Bindi, Sunni and Dude.
During his high school years, Dan relocated with his mom from Florida to Marietta, GA, where he graduated from Lassiter High School in Cobb County. Following high school, Dan decided to attend Concordia College in New York. The school’s volleyball team (which Dan was joining via a scholarship) was going to let him pick his number (14). Following a shoulder injury, Dan returned to Georgia and completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from Kennesaw State University. After finishing his degree, Dan spent the next 20-plus years moving around the country. He quickly became an industry leader in the arena of fast-moving consumer goods. Dan ultimately returned to Georgia in 2011 to be close to his daughter, Hannah, ironically, relocating back to Georgia also set the stage for him to meet his future wife, Jamila.
The goodness Dan had in his heart was best seen through his relationship with his daughter and wife. There was nothing he would not do for his two girls. He was a great friend to many and he brightened the lives of those close to him with his great (and uniquely Dan) sense of humor and love of pranks. All in his circle knew he was just a text away if they needed him.
Dan was best known by all who met him for his passion for the football team he loved – the Miami Dolphins. In fact, Dan had only missed watching a handful (or less) games his entire life. If you knew Dan, you knew how he felt about his Miami Dolphins.
Dan was a dearly loved husband, adored daddy and cherished friend, and he’ll forever be missed and lovingly remembered.
Remembrance donations can be made in Dan’s honor to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County (FL). www.bbsbroward.org
