Rufus Jenkins McLaurin Jr.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home, 212 West Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at South River Community Church, 6540 Goldsboro Road, Wade, NC, with Pastor Lynn McLaurin officiating; burial will follow the service at Williams Cemetery. The family will have a time of fellowship one hour prior to the service.

Matt was born in Fayetteville, NC to the late Nepha McMillan Naylor and Rufus Jenkins McLaurin, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Fisher.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Eddie McLaurin and wife, Peggy; daughter, Hillary McLaurin Headen and husband, Terrence; grandchildren, Mohagony, Mariah, Morgan and Mason Headen; one great-granddaughter, Ryder, Matkins; and sister, Beverly Ramsey.

Matt was a loving and supportive father and grandfather. He served his community as a coach for many years for various local football, basketball and softball teams. He was a devoted child of God and loved his church and church community. He served the Lord and had an undeniable passion for preaching and spreading the Word of God. Matt was also an outdoorsman and loved to fish and spend time with his dogs.
