A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty.
Born on June 7, 1942 to the late Roby F. Woods, Sr. and Espia Whitt Woods, Roby was a cherished individual known for his kindness and dedication to his family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Pell; his brother, Cornelius “Ace” Woods; and his wife, Linda Woods, whom he will be laid to rest beside.
Roby's professional life was marked by his commitment to his craft as a pipefitter, where he began his career at W.H. Sullivan Company in Greensboro. He rose to the position of supervisor, taking pride in his work, particularly installations at local hospitals. Roby also spent time as an instructor at Guilford Technical Community College. Following the closure of W.H. Sullivan, he served as a maintenance supervisor for the Town of Liberty.
He proudly served his community for many years as a volunteer firefighter with Mt. Hope Fire Department. His passions included gardening, raising small farm animals, and making his renowned sausage, BBQ sauce, and Brunswick stew, which brought joy to many.
Roby leaves behind his daughter, Sherry Lynn Woods Humphrey, and her husband, David; sons, Roby Karl Woods and his wife, Teresa, and Christopher Wayne Woods and his wife, Amanda; sisters, Brenda Ervin, Cynthia Lachey, Teresa Springs and her husband, Gary, Donna Samsel and her husband, Joey, and Wanda McGee, and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Aaron Mitchell Humphrey, Benjamin David Humphrey and his wife, Bethany, Ethan Joel Humphrey, Sarah Elisabeth Humphrey, Luke Christian Humphrey, Rebekah Rose Humphrey, Rachel Renée Humphrey, Hannah Charity-Grace Humphrey, Mary Katherine Humphrey, Abigail Ruth Humphrey, Brandon Karl Woods and his wife, Alex, Mallorie Woods Dixon and her husband, Andy, Shelby Renee Woods, and Ashlyn Woods Phillips and her husband, Cody; and great-grandchildren, Shane Michael Humphrey, Charles James Humphrey, Gideon Cooper Humphrey, River Isabelle Humphrey, Rhett Jackson Humphrey, Paxton Ryals Woods, and Parker Reid Woods.
