She was born on August 30, 1929 in Randolph County and grew up on Lee Street in Asheboro. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School, Class of 1947 and received her Registered Nursing Degree from High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in August of 1950. She married the love of her life in December of that same year. She went on to work at Randolph Hospital for 30 years serving in various departments and capacities (operating room, recovery room, emergency room, obstetrics) whenever and wherever she was needed. Peggy was affectionately called "The Sergeant" by the young student nurses because of her high ideals for exceptional patient care. After her children were older, she went to work for Dr. Singh at the orthopedic office where she retired in 1987.
She had a beautiful soprano voice and was choir director at West Bend United Methodist Church for almost 30 years as well as being active in many other church committees. She served as a volunteer nurse to her many neighbors and friends as well as her family. Her interests included fishing, shell hunting, and traveling. However, the main highlight of her life was her husband and her girls.
