Lily Claire Butler, beloved daughter of Dr. Chip and Carol Butler, lost her long, hard-fought battle with an eating disorder on July 20, 2021. She was a rising senior at Providence Grove High School where she ran cross country, played basketball and participated in track and field and soccer. Lily was passionate about running and placed in the NC State Cross Country Championships. She was selected for the Homecoming Court this past Spring and was the incoming Beta Club President and Captain of the Cross-Country Team. She was consistently a top academic performer in her class.
Lily was a devoted Christian and lived her faith openly by being a friend to all. She believed in judging no one, finding the goodness in everyone, and showing kindness to anyone she met. She shared her father’s enthusiasm for sports and any outdoor activity. She enjoyed long walks with her mother and spending time together in the kitchen trying new recipes. She loved playing games with her brother, most particularly when they teamed up against their parents. She had an infectious smile and a pure heart.
In addition to her parents, she leaves behind her brother Carter Butler, grandmother Lynda Butler, and grandparents Henry and Dianne Lewis. She will be missed by her aunts Shannon Stage (Steve), Lorie Poole (Alex), and uncle Dwayne Lewis (Jennifer). Cousins include Ben and Sam Stage; Trey, Nicholas, and Andrew Poole; and Isaac and Owen Lewis. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Dr. T. E. “Ed” Butler.
Visitation will be held at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church from 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Her funeral service will begin at 5:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, NC.
