The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Loflin Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at The Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, 212 West Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC 27298. Following the service, the burial will take place at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Elijah and Bernice Arrington Hill; wife, Irene Clay Hill; son, Rev. Gary Lee Hill; brothers, Rev. Thomas James Hill and William Jackson Hill; sisters, Beatrice "Bea" Hill Ray and Shirley Ann Hill Smith; and brothers-in-law, Dee Ray and Bobby Smith.
Leonard leaves behind his sons, Rodney "Ron" Hill and wife, Susan of Greensboro, NC, Rick Hill and wife, Jeanne of Conway, SC; grandchildren, Sandy Hill Leyva of Indian Trail, NC, Kristy Hill Spanik and husband, Kevin of Charleston, SC, Matt Hill of Conway, SC, Daniel Hill and wife, Kelly of Conway, SC; great-grandchildren, Jackson Hill, Xander Leyva, Harris Leyva, Olivia Hill, and Roslyn Irene Spanik; sister-in law, JoAnn Hill of Staley; daughter-in-law, Sinja Bennett Hill. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Leonard proudly served his country as a Corporal in the US Army Air Corps during WWII from November 12,1942 through February 13, 1946. During that time, he was an airplane engine mechanic. He maintained, repaired, rebuilt, and tested many airplane engines during the war. He also had training in maintenance and repair of teletype machines. After the war, he served his community as a farmer. Leonard worked many years as a welder for Wyson & Miles, a steel fabricator for Carolina Steel and was the owner of Anchor Furniture in Ramseur.
Leonard was a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Liberty, NC.
The Hill family would like to thank all the nursing staff at Clapps Assisted Living and Clapps Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden for all the love and care they showed Leonard. The family would also like to thank Cindy Rowell for all the time she spent and all the love and care she showed Dad before going to Clapps Nursing Center.
