A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the church. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan Riley Garrett.
Kay is survived by her parents, Patty and George Staley; her loving husband of 39 years, Mike Garrett; daughter, Amanda Griffin, and her husband Josh; grandchildren, Riley Lee Clapp and Tilden James Griffin; and brother, Fred Staley, and his wife Nancy.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, and nana. She served her community as a teacher’s assistant for Guilford County Schools for many years. She was a licensed beautician most of her adult life. She taught Sunday school to children when her kids were young. She touched many lives and will be missed dearly.
Lest her death not be in vain, Kay wished to compel women of all sizes and shapes to know breast cancer can happen to anyone. Don't make the fatal mistake of ignoring it.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
