The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Loflin Funeral Home, 212 West Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Loflin Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow the service at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park.
James was the son of the late Jessie James Wallace and Mary Watts Wallace. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian Faye Brown, Mary Frances Flowers and Janet Wallace.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 53 years, Jean Gutzman Wallace; sons, James Wallace, Jr. (Ishna) and Jessie Wallace (Kristi); daughters, Janet Carroll (Kenny), Jennifer Wallace and Tabitha Oxendine; brother, Jerry Wallace (Linda); sister, Brenda Jackson; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
James proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, for which he received a Purple Heart Medal. After his time in the service, James went on to serve 25 years as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service, where he retired. He was a loving, dedicated and hardworking husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed being “Paw-Paw” and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog “Willy”.
