Dee was born May 17, 1932 to the late Emma Campbell Glass and Harvey Glass. Dee graduated High School from Staley High in Staley, NC. She went on to receive her license as a Cosmetologist. She also worked at Glendale Hosiery in Siler City, NC until her retirement.
In her leisure she enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteering at The Bargain Shop. She also enjoyed helping others and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed baking and was quite known for her Persimmon Pudding and German Chocolate cake. She is a member of Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, John Gilmer Sands; sisters, Ruth Stephens and Pauline Loy; and brother, WG Glass. She is survived by two daughters, Belinda Cheek (Tony Cheek) and Sherry Shepherd; her brother, Joe Glass (Joanne Glass) and her sister, Catherine Perry. She has 5 Grandchildren, Jennifer Kyritsis (Dan Kyritsis), Ashley Lowman (PJ Lowman), Cameron Cheek (Caryn Cheek), Sydney Shepherd and Lauren Shepherd. 8 Great Grandchildren, Ryan Kyritsis, Noah Kyritsis, Mason Lowman, Blake Lowman, Sadie Lowman, Caleb Lowman, Hallie Cheek and Makenzie Cheek.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church, 10068 Silk Hope Liberty Road, Siler City, NC. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church; burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church cemetery fund.
