Patricia Campbell Lund, 90, passed away on February 8, 2017, surrounded by the spirit of her family. She was born July 20, 1926 in Independence, MO. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lorena Campbell, and her husband of 67 years, John E. Lund.
She is survived by her three sons, Steve (Lynne) of Liberty; Gary, of Springfield, MO; Greg (Marge) of Liberty, five grandchildren, Erik (Overland Park, KS), Aaron (St. Charles, MO), Lindsay (Kansas City, MO), Jennifer (Liberty) and Jamie (Ft. Collins, CO) and five great grandchildren.
Patricia grew up in Independence, MO and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1944. She is a graduate of William Jewell College, attending from 1944 to 1948. She was a member of the TNT Local Sorority, and then a charter member of the Alpha Delta Pi National sorority when the two organizations affiliated at William Jewell.
Patricia was a lifelong, accomplished ballroom, ballet and tap dancer and teacher. In the 1930’s, as a young child, she was a regular with the “Kansas City Kiddies Review”, a weekly radio broadcast recital at the Music Hall in Kansas City. In the 1940’s she belonged to a number of dance companies, including the “Darlings”, the “Lovelies” and ultimately as a member of the “Gillespie Sullivan Dance Troupe”. While attending William Jewell, Patricia was the first person to officially “dance” on the William Jewell Campus, during the annual Tatler Review. From 1949 until 1974, she operated the first dance studio in Clay County, the “Pat Lund School of Dance” and taught more than two generations of dance students, and was fondly referred to as “Ms. Pat”. From 1968 until 1982, she was an adjunct Professor of Physical Education at William Jewell, where she taught “Rhythmic Activities” and coached the Varsity Cheerleading and Cardinal Dance Teams.
She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church and faithfully served there for 70 years. She was a Deacon Emeritus of the congregation. For more than 30 years she was dedicated to visiting the Shut-Ins of the congregation on a weekly basis. She loved attending her weekly bible classes and enjoyed learning from the Holy Scriptures with her classmates.
Patricia was an avid and accomplished bridge player, and belonged to numerous daytime and evening Bridge Clubs for more than 50 years.
She and her husband John were charter members of the Liberty Junior Jaycees service organization, the Carousel Dance Club and Clayview Country Club. She actively supported the athletic programs at Liberty High School and William Jewell College for decades.
Patricia was an energetic woman, dedicated to her family and friends and strongly devoted to her faith. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Liberty Christian Church, 427 East Kansas Street, Liberty, MO on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00pm. Donations in Patricia’s memory may be made to the Trust Fund of the Liberty Christian Church.
