Margaret Ellen Thomson, 89, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Oxford Grand in Kansas City, Missouri. The Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Second Baptist Church of Liberty, Missouri. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery, Liberty, Missouri. Friends may call on the family from 1:30pm until Service Time on Saturday, April 13th at the church. The family requests contributions be made to the Second Friends Preschool at the Second Baptist Church or to the Bruce R. Thomson Scholarship Fund of William Jewell College.
Margaret was born March 19, 1929, in Eldorado, Illinois to Rex and Cora (Porter) Beasley. She graduated from El Dorado High School, before attending William Jewell College, graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1949. While attending William Jewell, Margaret met Bruce Randolph Thomson, who would later become her husband. After graduation, she moved away, earning her Teaching Certification while she was living in Louisville, Kentucky, but she returned to Liberty in 1959, where she remained until moving to Oxford Grand a year ago.
She enjoyed traveling, and she made a point to visit all 50 States, as well as many places in Europe and Asia. She loved adding color to her yard by planting all sorts of flowers and watching them grow, as well as feeding and watching all of the colorful songbirds in the area; especially the hummingbirds. Margaret also enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. She was a champion Scrabble Player as well. She was a teacher Liberty Public Schools for 25, teaching at Manor Hill for several years before finishing her career at Lewis and Clark, where she taught for 21 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and she was active in WMU and a big supporter of Second Friends Preschool. Margaret earned her Master's Degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City, and she was also a member of PEO and DAR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 35 years when he passed away in 1983.
Survivors include her brother, James Beasley; 2 children, Susan Fowler and her husband Nick, and Randy Thomson and his wife Tina; 3 grandchildren, Nick Fowler and his wife Nicole, Erin Smith and her husband Jarrod, and Bruce Thomson; and 7 great-grandchildren, Nathan Fowler, Grace Fowler, Addison Smith, Brody Smith, Joshua Fowler, Andrew Fowler and Levi Smith.
