Margi Hawks, 87, of Liberty, passed away March 30, 2021 after a brief decline in health. A Celebration of Margi's Life service will be held on April 24, at 11:00 AM at Faith Community Church, 4330 NW Cookingham Road. Masks are respectfully requested by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that people could honor Margi’s memory with a contribution to Faith Christian Academy’s school library fund. Margi was laid to rest in Santa Maria Cemetery in Santa Maria, California.
Margi was born February 26, 1934 in Torrington, Wyoming to James Beard and Edna (McConnell) Lawhead. Her family eventually settled in San Diego, California, during World War II. Margi went on to visit 49 of the States over the course of her life; she lacked Florida. Her husband, Stan, was discovered in San Diego, and they began their family together in Boston, MA, before returning to California. After Stan's death, she followed her grandchildren to the Kansas City region where she remained to the present.
Margi was passionate about faith, family, history, and the books that tell their stories. She parented full-time while her children grew up then committed her time to a variety of responsibilities in the community and the church throughout her life. She was a home economist par-excellence and used thrift and creativity to enhance the lives of her family and those around her.
She created art, played the violin in community and church ensembles, and taught and mentored many in her church community. She was busy and active to the very end. Her final obsession was to corral a disparate collection of books discovered on-site after the recent move of Faith Community Church, where she attended; these she turned into a real lending library resource with special attention to books of history for children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley G. Hawks; and her three brothers, Donald, Neil, and Robert Lawhead.
Margi is survived by her children, Linda Armstrong (Gary), and Timothy Hawks (Chitra); her grandchildren, Michael (Brooke), Katherine (Alan), and Paul; her great-grandchild, two-week-old, Warren; her brother, Paul Maurice Lawhead; her sister-in-law, Catherine Lawhead; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, 816-781-2000.
