Karen Flo Gibby

Karen was born on May 13, 1946 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Florence Irene (Johnston) and Lloyd Leon Anderson. She spent most of her childhood traveling around the United States, as her father was a pipefitter for the developing oil pipelines. Karen considered Southeast Kansas as her home and the family returned there during Karen’s high school years. She participated in theater, dance, and band, and graduated from Baxter Springs High School in Baxter Springs, Kansas.

Karen married and soon moved to Liberty, Missouri where she settled with her husband, Vincent, and started her family with the birth of daughter, Karibeth. She attended William Jewell College where she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree. She became a social worker for the State of Missouri where she primarily worked for the Division of Aging, focusing on helping the elderly and infirm. She was also a member of Northland Professionals in Aging, where she was honored for excellence in her profession.

Karen loved football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. She loved anything and everything “sparkly”. She also loved everything Irish and was proud of the families Irish Ancestry. Karen's friends describe her as having “a heart of gold.” She was dedicated to the seniors she served as well as unendingly loyal to her mother and her sister, Deborah Beth. She was the most perfect Grami to her grandchildren, Kallista and Colton.

Karen was preceded in death by her mom, Florence; her sister, Deborah Beth; and her grandson, Garrett.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Karibeth (Gibby) Tamme; her son-in-law, Gary Tamme; her grandchildren, Kallista Tamme and Colton Tamme and many other family members, friends, and loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Ave, Liberty, MO 64068. A graveside service and inurnment at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett, Kansas will be held at a later date.
