Glenn was born in Liberty to Caleb G and Gertrude Petty and grew up in a loving family with his siblings. He graduated from Liberty High School and went on to attend William Jewell College where he earned a Mathematics Degree and excelled in Track & Field setting records in the Pole Vault (back when they used Swedish steel poles!). He met his bride Martha Jean Hightower while in college, and they were united in marriage shortly after their graduation from college. Glenn soon left his new young bride to go serve his country in Korea. He served in the United States Army from November 1951 to September 1953, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
After serving in Korea, he returned home on the same battle ship on which recently released American prisoners of war were also carried. He then settled into life with his young bride and started a family raising their four sons on their beef cattle farm outside of Liberty. He retired from his farm at 84 years old.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Floyd Petty and Edgar Petty, his wife Martha Jean, infant son Mark David Petty and infant great-grandson Mason Levi Allen.
He is survived by his sister Martha Williams of St. Louis, sons Brian (Pam) Petty, Arthur (Mary) Petty, Russell (Stephanie) Petty, and John (Kim) Petty.
