Aubrey Hugh “Deek” Deitrick passed peacefully on December 15. The first child of Aubrey and Ruby Deitrick, born in Oklahoma City, July 23, 1938. Deek graduated High School in OKC and earned a business degree from OU-boomer sooner! Following his college graduation, Deek married Pat Moore. The newlyweds moved to Kansas City, MO to launch his career and family. His first position at Hallmark Cards was followed a few years later by a long stint as Catalog Controller at Montgomery Wards. In 1979 he launched a successful real estate career as an agent, quickly becoming broker-owner of Re\Max of Liberty, Inc. His professional achievements include Re\Max Hall of Fame award, and the 1983 Re\Max Mid-States Region Broker/Owner of the Year. Deek was co-developer of the Re\Max building in Liberty, MO.
He was a man of many passions and enthusiastically shared and pursued interests in travel, steam trains, hiking, and geology. He had a deep love of the Rocky Mountains. He made many camping trips with family and friends to Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Canada. As a rock hound, he hunted aquamarine on Mt. Antero, mined opal in Idaho, and searched out quartz, fossils and mineral specimens all over the United States. He was active in the KC Chapter National Railway Historical Society and travelled far and wide to see locomotives and ride steam trains. He hiked to the bottom and back of the Grand Canyon, the summit of multiple peaks in the Rocky Mountains, and miles of trails in Yosemite, Hawaii and Alaska. Very active in the community, his long-time volunteer activities include the backpack snack program, Boy Scouts of America, and participation in numerous community events. He used his photography skills and enthusiasm to share knowledge to create presentations for grade schools.
He is fondly remembered for using humor and mischief to spread smiles, happiness, and laughter to those around him. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Deitrick, daughters Janice Deitrick and Donna Gossett, son Carl Deitrick, grandchildren Jeffrey Gossett and Emma Deitrick, sister Marilynn Herring; brother Jack Deitrick. Preceded in death by his parents and grandson Brian Gossett.
Visitation will be Monday, December 27, 10AM followed by Celebration of Life at 11AM at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Ave., Liberty, Missouri.
