Duane was born in Beech Grove on February 20, 1953, to Jack and Ena White Clark. He graduated from Brookville High School in 1971. Duane, in later years, earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Automotive Technology from Ivy Tech. In addition to being the owner and operator of Clarks Auto Service in Liberty, he worked for Chrysler Corporation for over twenty-one years retiring in 2008. Duane also was serving as an instructor in Automotive Technology at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. He was a member of St Bridget Catholic Church in Liberty, Knights of Columbus in Brookville, and the Liberty and Brookville Fire Departments. Duane enjoyed karaoke singing, working on cars, and spending time with his family and co-workers. Duane was a faithful caregiver for his wife Maxine for the past thirteen years.
Duane is survived by his wife Maxine of Liberty; his children and their spouses: April Gabbard and Larry of Connersville, Michelle Peed and Kelly of Williamsburg, Brian DeFossett of Brookville, and Greg DeFossett and Renee of Brookville; his siblings and their spouses: Sharon McDowell and Jerry, Linda Collinge, Judy Stutler, Melissa Anderson and Greg, Monica Brown and Chris, Jackie Johnson and David, and Melinda Clark, Vincent Clark; fourteen grandchildren: Michele Moran and Ryan, Mike DeFossett, Alyson Flanigan and Kurt, Jeremy DeFossett, Cierra Gabbard, Jake Gabbard, Nikolas Gabbard, Alyssa Persinger, Brooklyn Gabbard, Mason Peed, Kollyn Peed, Ayden Alcorn, Payten Gabbard, Isabella Peed; four great-grandchildren: Emily, Kurty, Mikey, and Riley; and several nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Jennifer Brate; and a brother-in-law: Ed Collinge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church at 404 E Vine Street in Liberty with Father Dustin Boehm officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery. Friends may visit on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty where memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Fire Department or the Scholarship Fund for Sinclair Community College.
