Carolyn Schaeffer

Carolyn A. Schaeffer, 76, of Liberty, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN after a brief illness.
Carolyn was born August 24, 1938, in Brookville, the child of Stanley and Ollie Smith Carnes. She attended Short High School in Liberty and graduated in 1956. On Jan. 7, 1961, she was married to Max R. Schaeffer at the First Presbyterian Church in Liberty. Carolyn spent many years working at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office in Liberty. She was a faithful member and volunteer of the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. Carolyn especially enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren, having moved to South Bend in 2013 to spend more time with them. Carolyn loved cooking, baking, her home economics club and all her friends.

Carolyn is survived by two children and their spouses, Darin R. Schaeffer and Lisa M. of Granger, Kathie A. Kontowsky and Irvin J. of Elkhart; her grandchildren, Blake and Lydia Schaeffer, Garrett and Lance Kontowsky; a nephew, Jim Faber of Brownsville; and two nieces, Cheryl Faber of Liberty and Becky Lucas of Anderson, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max in 2011 and her sister, Vivian Faber in 2009
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Bell officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery. Friends may visit at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, from 12-2 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Union County Foundation, where a fund is being established. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty is assisting the family with the arrangements.
