MILWAUKIE - William Carl Lewis, Jr. of Milwaukie, OR, died on February 9, 2016. He was born November 22, 1947 in Lexington, SC. He attended Lexington High School and was drafted into the United States Army shortly after graduation. He served several tours in Vietnam and also in Nuremberg, Germany, where he met and married his wife, Patricia. After his discharge he moved with his family to Oregon, where he worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service and for Land Rover of Portland. After retirement he enjoyed bicycling, European travel and exploring fine foods and wine with his wife.
William was a true Southern good ol’ boy. He was always ready with a joke or a smile. He never met a stranger, and he took time to know and care about all those he met. People were important to him, and he showed this with his actions. He saw otherwise unnoticed ways to serve and he took time to quietly meet those needs without fanfare or public knowledge. He loved his wife and children passionately and without reservation.
William is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Camilla Powell and Allison Pruitt; sons-in-law, Keith Powell and Matthew Pruitt; grandchildren, Lilian, David and Elsa Powell and many friends.
Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at Clackamas Bible Church. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Oregon Public broadcasting, the home of his beloved Brit-coms and car shows.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Lexington, SC on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
