It is with deep sorrow that the McElveen family announces the death of Thomas Lide McElveen, Jr., 81, of West Columbia, SC. Mr. McElveen entered into rest on August 10, 2023. Tommy was born in Hartsville, SC, on January 21, 1942, and was the son of the late Thomas Lide McElveen, Sr, and the late Marilyn Blackwell McElveen.
Tommy attended Cocker College and graduated from the University of South Carolina. He enjoyed helping people throughout his career. He was employed with the Trust Company of SC and retired with the South Carolina Department of Insurance. Tommy loved NASCAR, the Gamecocks and was a huge supporter of Red Fox Athletics. He was a member of the Lions Club and the B&F Club.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sandra; daughters, Mari Kaye Haney, and Ashley Kay Price; granddaughter, Mari Pennington Boatwright; and grandsons, Josh Haney, and Charlie Mayo.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn McElveen Boatwright.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 5 o’clock on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home-Lexington Chapel located at 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
