Tom had been retired for several years from a career in highly specialized computer consulting for banking and financial services. He saw the potential in computers and computer networking in the early 1970s and fostered a life-long passion for the field that led him to clients and projects around the world for almost 40 years.
Tom loved to travel, whether it was visiting far-off countries or annual beach week with his family. He loved to laugh, to read, to enjoy a great meal – and would rather be doing those things with his wife, children, and grandchildren than anything else. Unless his beloved Clemson Tigers were playing – and then it was a toss-up.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of more than fifty years, Marlean (Chavis) Mangum; by his children, Shannon Mangum-Henderson and Michael Henderson, Kimberly Mangum-Atwood and Bryan Atwood, and Rebecca Mangum Wolfe and Justin Wolfe; and by five grandchildren who he adored and bragged on at every opportunity.
The family is grateful to the compassionate team of doctors and nurses at Lexington Medical Center who cared for Tom and the family during his final hours.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Brown Chapel, Christian Life Church, 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Mangum family.
