Susan Martens

Susan Desiree Martens, age 70, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was born in Saint-Mesmin, France on June 18, 1953 to Jack and Eva Lipes, and spent her childhood immersed in different cultures and languages thanks to her parents’ adventures throughout the country and the world.

Susi married the love of her life, David Martens, in 1987 and they spent the next 37 years building a life together. As a beloved wife and stepmother, Susi devoted her time and energy to her family. She was known as a proficient cook and a shrewd financial accountant who never shied away from sharing her opinions or personal advice with family, friends and others lucky enough to engage with her in conversation. She loved cats, roses, the color pink and butterflies, including the many specimens her father collected throughout his life. As a grandmother, her grandchildren became her pride and joy and she spent much of her time devising ways to bring smiles to their faces and ensuring they never lacked for anything. However her generosity of heart and spirit extended well-beyond her family and included an ever-growing circle of friends and loved ones. She will be greatly missed by everyone that her life touched.

Susi was preceded in death by her father, Jack and her mother, Eva. She is survived by her husband, David; her aunt, Ursula (Whayne); her stepchildren, Eric, Kirsten (Forest), Ingrid (Jeremy) and Karl (Beth); her grandchildren, Nathan (Jen), Pharon, Jackson, Lorena, Virginia, Karl, Louis and Kaeden; and her great-grandchildren, Peyton and Lakelyn.

A memorial service will be held for Susi at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
