Roberta (Bobbie) Vukas Summers, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 31, 2024 in Columbia SC. She was born on July 7, 1940 in East Liverpool, OH. Her parents were Rudy Vukas and Martha Bratich.
Bobbie is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Summers, and her son, Jason Summers of Lexington, SC. She was preceded in death by her son, Dean Summers. Bobbie leaves behind four grandchildren, Jayden Summers, Jenna Summers, Skylar Summers, and Christopher Libert. She has two great-grandchildren, Haven and Aria. She is also survived by four sisters, Donna Bussard, Cindy Angerett, Melissa Spoon, Valerie Torres; and two brothers, Charles Vukas and Rudy Vukas, Jr.
Bobbie graduated from Beaver Falls High School in PA in 1957. She completed a master’s degree in paralegal studies and then worked for Westinghouse. Later, she earned another master’s degree while working for Chem Nuclear (Energy Solutions). After she “retired,” she continued to stay very active. She worked at Honey Baked Ham, where she enjoyed interacting with coworkers and customers until she left in 2022. She loved gardening, feeding the birds, and volunteering. She was a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church and later embraced Catholicism. She served on the Women’s Group of Our Lady of the Hills in Columbia, SC. She served as treasurer in the local chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and overseas.
Bobbie absolutely loved to cook for gatherings of family and friends. Whether it was a huge holiday meal, or some food for a poolside gathering in the backyard, she enjoyed making sure everyone had fun and was full! She was loved by all her met her. Bobbie's legacy is her love for her family and friends, and the importance she placed on service to others. She will be missed dearly.
