West Columbia – Funeral services for Raymond Applewhite, 77 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Celestial Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at the funeral home chapel. Active Pallbearers will be Zach Applewhite, Justin Dillon, Jeremy Applewhite, George Huizinga, Jr. Chad Shealy, and Jimmy Dillon, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Smith, Gerrit Huizinga, Griffin Huizinga and Hudson Strickland.
Mr. Applewhite was born June 3, 1935 in Columbus, GA and passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. He was a son of the late John David Applewhite and Lilla Mae Calhoun Applewhite. Mr. Applewhite was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan which earned him the nick name of “Georgia Boy”. His family was his pride and joy. His mission in life was to make others laugh. His profound love for his wife was an inspiration to all. He was known by his peers as a legend in the construction industry.
Mr. Applewhite is survived by his children, Tina Applewhite Dillon (Jimmy, Jr.), Cheryl Applewhite Huizinga (George Jr.), Michael Raymond Applewhite (Connie), Ricky Lee Applewhite (Sharon) and Walter David Applewhite; grandchildren, Latisha Dillon Strickland, Justin Dillon (Amber), Zach Applewhite (Alicia Moody) Brittany Applewhite, Jeremy Applewhite (Heather), Jessie Amick Shealy (Chad), Holyn Huizinga, Gerrit Huizinga, Griffin Huizinga; great-grandchildren, Alana Shealy, Allie Shealy, Kassady Strickland, Hudson Strickland; sister, Dorothy Applewhite Hancock and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the love of his life, Linda Clark Applewhite; and brother, Leon Applewhite.
