LEXINGTON - Rachel Hartley Hembree passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born December 6, 1925, in Leesville, SC, she was the oldest child of the late, Levi and Inez Hartley. She married Roy T. Hembree December 5, 1942, and they were married for 66 years until his death in 2008. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She will be missed, but not forgotten. Rachel was a member of the Northwood Baptist Church where she was a member of the ladies Sunday School Class and cooked Wednesday night suppers and prepared meals for many other special events.She is survived by her children, Annette T. Martin (Dan), Dennis G. Hembree (Terry Kelley); Sharon H. Pair (David); granddaughters, Beth Powell, Kimberly Watson (Brett), Ashleigh Conner (Brian) and three great-grandsons, Xan Watson and Cash and Noah Conner. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Lewis (Jimmy), Mary Clark, Sarah Cooper (Charlie), Marie Gunter (Roy), Linda Kirkland (Charles); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Rachel was preceded in death by a brother, Donley Hartley; sister, Barbara Rish; and brother-in-law Harvey Clark. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.The family is very grateful to Southern Surgical, Internal Medical Associates, and Carolina Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwood Baptist Church or Carolina Gardens, Lexington campus.
