LEXINGTON – A memorial service for Ottis Jefferson Smith, Jr., 84, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at The Harvest Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Warrenville Cemetery, Aiken, SC. Memorials may be made to The Harvest Church, 4865 Sunset Blvd., Lexington, SC 29072.
Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1934 in Augusta, GA, and passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. He was a son of the late Ottis Jefferson Smith and Floice Harper Smith. Mr. Smith signed up for the military just before the end of the Korean War, serving four years in the Air Force, and he retired from the federal government in Government Housing. He loved his wife of 58 years, Shirley Heath Smith, and his family, and he loved his church and enjoyed spreading the word of God. He volunteered with the Republican Party.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Keith E. Smith, Sr.; grandchildren, Keith E. Smith, Jr., Stephanie Smith, Ryan S. Cowsert, Alex Cowsert, Stanford, Grant, Jeffery; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Don Smith and one sister. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Heath Smith; son, Ottis Jefferson Smith III and brother, Cecil Cole.
