LEXINGTON - Norma Sue Lawless Yost passed away on August 17, 2015 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC at the age of 77. Norma Sue was born on November 6, 1937 in Anniston, AL to Edward and Elvira Lawless. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. She served in the Women’s Army Corps as a Key Punch Operator in the US Army Machine Records Unit at Fort Meade, MD. She married Ron, an Army PFC, in 1959. She worked as a computer programmer and retired in Chattanooga, TN from TVA in July, 1988. She was an accomplished author of two genealogy books. Ron and Norma resided in Lexington, South Carolina. She was a dedicated individual who loved genealogy and was passionate about her family history. Norma Sue is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
Norma Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald M Yost, Sr.; children, Mary “Kathy” Groth (John Hancock) of Sycamore, SC, Terese Dillard (Ed) of Knoxville, TN, and Rhonda Pittman (David) of Hahnville, LA; grandchildren, Jeremy Groth (Julie), Deana Rhoney (Travis), Crystal Kelly (Shaun), Tom Dillard (Kelly), Justin Groth, Sara Hayes (Tyler), Alex Pittman and Abigail Pittman; great grandchildren, Ember Kelly, Colin Rhoney, Kyle Groth and River Kelly; siblings, Tommy Lawless of Maynardville, TN, Jim Lawless (Vi) of Knoxville, TN, Sam Webb, Jr. (Joni) of Powell, TN, Marilyn Sanders (Gary) of Dadeville, AL, Judy Webb of Maynardville, TN and Gladys Stooksbury (Norman Hughes) of Heiskell, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Ronald M. Yost, Jr., her parents Edward Lawless and Elvira Lawless Webb, and her stepfather Samuel Webb, Sr.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Red Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 405 Red Hill Rd., Andersonville, TN on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Stroke Association at www.stroke.org/ways-give/donate. Interment will be at Norris Memorial Gardens, Norris, TN in a private family ceremony.
