Columbia – A celebration of Life Service for Nancy Fussell Whitlaw, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063. The family will receive guests after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private inurnment of her ashes will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
Nancy was born July 7, 1938 in Rose Hill, NC. She went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse L. and Margaret W. Fussell. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Lt. Col. (ret), Nathaniel “Nate” O. Whitlaw, Jr; her treasured sons, Nathaniel “Nate” O. Whitlaw, III (Stephanie) of Millersville, MD and Troy B. Whitlaw of Columbia, SC and three cherished granddaughters, Kyla, Shelia and Grace Whitlaw; beloved siblings, sister, Mary Lou F. Sloan of Wilmington, NC and brother, William “Buddy” G. Fussell (Suzanne) of Surf City, NC.
Nancy, a dedicated Christian, committed her life to the giving of herself to family and others for the glory of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted military wife during her husband’s 22 year career. Her career in Real Estate led her to be a top producer in the Million Dollar Club in Jacksonville, NC area for multiple years. She volunteered her talents to the Sharing God’s Love Ministry, Riverland Hills CRC class, activities of the Lake Murray Women’s Club, including fundraising efforts for the Irmo branch of Lexington County Library and the Irmo Okra Strut, Columbia Newcomers Club and the Columbia Residents Club. Nancy enjoyed traveling, attending and watching Clemson football and playing bridge with friends.
