Born October 30, 1966 in Winston Salem, NC, Mel Bennett was the daughter of William and Veronica Hutchins. Loved and known by many as "Mel-Ma" and "Mel-B", she was a passionate follower of Christ, and a loyal and fierce wife, mother and friend. She was also a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington.
The greatest moments of Melanie’s life were spent with family and friends, selflessly putting the needs of others before her own with an outpouring of love and positivity. Her love for family was her greatest accomplishment, and no prouder mother has existed.
This “queen of the dance party” will always be remembered for her bright and infectious spirit and loud laughter.
On August 8, 1990, she married the love of her life, “her person”, David Mayfield Bennett. Also surviving are her two children: daughter, Hayes Mayfield and son, Jeb Derring and siblings: sister, Sheri Hutchins and brother, Chip Hutchins.
A celebration of Mel’s life will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington. “Postgame” celebration to follow at Southern Oaks event venue in Gilbert, SC. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
