With the deepest and profound sorrow, we announce the tragic loss of Mason Smith, a vibrant soul who left us far too soon at the age of 10. Though only 10, he led an exceptionally full life. Mason was known for his infectious smile, his trademark red mullet, his kindness, sportsmanship, and his boundless love for life.
Mason's spirit was as bright as his hair, illuminated by his love for Jesus, his family, and his passions. Whether he was on the baseball field, proudly sporting his #10 jersey and cheering on his teammates (and even opponents), pursuing his love for clay shooting, riding one of his many outdoor vehicles, hunting, cutting trails in the woods, boating on the lake, fishing, singing country songs, swimming, aggravating/playing with/coaching his sister at basketball or track, playing with his friends, snuggling his mommy, working with his daddy, "training" his dogs, cotillion (just kidding, he did NOT like dressing up for cotillion!), Mason's enthusiasm and zest for life were unmatched.
His spirit and energy were infectious; spreading laughter to everyone he met. Mason's life was a testament to living fully and passionately. He wore the #10 on his jersey. Everything he did was given 10/10 effort, and he was a perfect 10 in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mason's light will continue to shine brightly in the memories and hearts of those who loved him. The past few days have been incredibly difficult for our family, but amidst the tears, we have found solace in the countless cherished memories we shared with Mason. We have shed many tears, but we have also found moments of laughter amid the sorrow.
With the utmost gratitude, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our countless friends, our work friends and families, the amazing baseball community, neighbors, local community members - each and every person who has reached out to us or has prayed for us during this incredibly challenging time. We feel all of your love and prayers. We are deeply touched by all of the thoughtful and countless gestures, kind words, prayers, and stories you have shared about Mason. Thank you for thinking of our family and for loving Mason. It brings us comfort to know he was so loved.
Mason had a deep love for Jesus and looked forward to sharing his faith with his friends. As one of the first responders so profoundly said, "We save lives every single day but Mason is saving souls". May Mason's memory continue to inspire love for Jesus, acts of kindness, love, compassion, and sportsmanship in the world.
Mason is survived by his parents, Michael and Brittini Smith; sister, Clayton Smith; maternal aunt, Brandi Cole (Shane) and daughters, Charlotte and Helen; maternal uncles, Landon Jordan and Peden Rucker; paternal aunt, Summer Smith and her children Brooke, Austin, and Jamie; maternal grandparents; Mark and Pat Rucker; and paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Smith.
A celebration of life for Mason will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Horeb Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29072.
Please come to the service dressed as Mason would remember you. If Mason knew you from the hunting club, wear camo. If from the ballpark, wear your baseball jersey/fan gear. If from school, wear casual clothes. Mason would not want his friends having to wear dress pants and a tie.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Mason Foundation. His kindness, sportsmanship, and love for sports and all things outdoors will live on through the Mason Foundation.
