WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Marvin E. Davis, 93, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Lexington United Methodist Church with entombment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Mr. Davis, widower of LaVeta Kincheloe Davis, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Born in Kingman, KS October 19, 1919, he was the son of the late Elmer and Sarah Davis. He was a Coast Guard and Navy Veteran of World War, II. He earned a B.S. Degree in Applied Geology at Kansas State University and did graduate studies in Micro-paleontology.
He retired from the US Geological Survey after 35 years conducting ground-water studies in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and South Carolina. He was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Woodward, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge #189 and a Knights Templar of the Tuscaloosa, Alabama York Rite Bodies. He belonged to the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Fraternity an honorary geological society.
He is survived by his daughters, Madelaine D. Niemeyer (Jerry) of Irmo and Patricia E. Jones (Douglas) of Waxahachie, TX; 4 grandchildren, Darrell Niemeyer, Charlotte Catledge, Elizabeth and Trevor Jones; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
