Heaven gained an angel on August 18, 2023, when Marjorie “Margie” Lacoste Davis unexpectedly left us and joined her Heavenly Father. Left to treasure her memory is her husband of 35 years, Sam Davis. Margie was the beloved mother of Lauren Taylor and felt honored to have Jon as her son-in-law. She was MiMi to their three wonderful children: Sophie, Sam, and Hudson, whom she truly cherished.
Born in Columbia on August 27, 1957, as the middle child and only daughter of June Shealy and Sidney Adam Lacoste, Jr., her parents predeceased her. She is survived by her older brother, David Lacoste (Becky), and nieces, Rachael Carter (Jacob), Emily and Amy. She was predeceased by her younger brother Paul (Ginnie), and has two nephews, Matthew and Daniel.
Margie graduated from Dreher High School before earning an associate degree in dental hygiene. She was employed at South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for 31.5 years, working initially in the Bureau of Vital Records, then in the Bureau of Land and Waste Management.
Her paternal heritage provided Margie with Cajun roots, which absolutely delighted her. She felt at home with family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Many of her memories stemmed from years of summer visits with aunts, uncles, and cousins, who will all surely miss her. Under the guidance of Aunt Lana, she mastered the ability to prepare perfect gumbo, a not-so-easy feat. Her kindness, compassion, giving and caring nature, gentle spirit and gracious manner are but a few fine examples of the incredible woman we knew and loved.
Nature grounded Margie. One of her favorite activities was sitting outside on a porch, especially under the tin roof of the “Lil Rascal” at the lake, rocking and watching for an approaching storm. Thunder, lightning, and wind spoke to her soul. She was fascinated by the moon, planets, and twinkling stars, and could point out and name many constellations, such as Orion, Sagittarius, and Ursa Major. Margie is now an eternal part of the magnificent galaxy she held near to her heart – look to the sky and sense her presence.
Margie left us too early, but knowing she’s at peace brings us great comfort. Visitation will be held in the Social Hall at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church Street, Lexington SC on Friday, August 25th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Funeral services will follow immediately thereafter in the sanctuary, officiated by the Reverend Jason T. Antley.
The family wishes to thank Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington for their kind assistance during this difficult time. If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Davis family.
