Margaret J. Wilhide

LEXINGTON – A funeral service for Margaret Joan Weaver Wilhide, 75, a resident of the Columbia Presbyterian Community, Lexington, SC will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC with interment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Franklin Fant, he Rev. Alice Odell and The Rev. Fran Bragan will conduct the services. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church or Presbyterian Community of South Carolina, Columbia Home, 700 Davega Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.

Mrs. Wilhide was born August 25, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio and passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015. She was a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Jessie M. Henry Weaver. Mrs. Wilhide was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church where she was president of her circle and was Moderator of Women of the Church. She received an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 2011. Joan sang in the Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church choir for 40 years. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She baked the communion bread for Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church for over 25 years. Joan decorated the dining room, the Special Care area, the lobby, the library and the B wing parlor at Presbyterian Community of SC with her Department 56 houses and accessories for many years around Christmastime, beginning in 2006. She enjoyed making and giving away her sour dough bread for many years. Joan made quilts for her husband, her children, her grandchildren and other family members. Mrs. Wilhide loved to travel. She visited Africa, Australia, England, Scotland and 10 other European countries. She was a voracious reader and also worked at the Living Vine Christian Bookstore as well as RL Bryan Children’s bookstore.

Surviving are her loving husband of 54 years and caregiver for the last several years, Dr. James A. Wilhide; children, Scott A. Wilhide of Irmo, SC, Karen L. Wilhide Hart (Charles) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Kevin J. Wilhide of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, A. J. Wilhide of Columbia, SC, Jayne Wilhide of Columbia, SC, Christopher Hart of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Caroline Hart of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother, Arthur W. Weaver (June) of North Jackson, OH; sister-in-law, Loralee J. Weaver of Springboro, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Joseph H. Weaver.
