LEXINGTON – A worship service for Lewis Carroll Harmon, 94, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Peters Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Harmon was born February 16, 1921 in Lexington County, SC to the late J. Winfred Harmon and Marion Jacobs Harmon Hayes and passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015. He was a life-long member of St. Peters Lutheran Church where he served in various positions. He was a farmer and devoted his career to conservation. He was employed with the Soil Conservation Service, USDA, for more than thirty years and with Lexington County for three years after his retirement from SCS. He was a member of FFA, Lexington County Young Farmers and the Lake Murray Fire Department.
Mr. Harmon was married to the late Fay H. Harmon for sixty-four years. Surviving are his three sons, Leon C. Harmon (Susan), Steven N. Harmon (Deidre) and Calvin C. Harmon ; seven grandchildren, Rev. John N. Harmon (Melanie), Andrew C. Harmon (Melissa), Jordon W. Harmon (Jenny), Dr. Sarah Anne Knowlton (Yates), LT. Matthew L. Harmon (Miki), Christopher L. Harmon and 2LT. Benjamin H. Harmon. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren; sister, Maeola H. Porth and sisters-in-law, Frances P. Harmon and Patty H. Carter (Edwin). He is predeceased by his brothers, Samuel M. Harmon, Marion H “Hinky” Harmon, Winford Ray Harmon, a sister, Wanda Fay H. Gunter and brother-in-law, Willard “Buck” Harmon.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church Cemetery Endowment Fund. Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandson-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are Ray and Eve Rose Alexander, R. Hugh Caldwell, Hampton S. Caughman, Raymond S. Caughman, D. Murray Price, Murray Seay, George Roof, Bobby Porth, Larry Shull, Matthew Monts, St. Peters Adult I Sunday School Class, the Loving Group and the Golden Age Members of St. Peters Lutheran Church.
