LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Kenneth Hiram Miller, 81, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Band of Brothers from Drill Sergeants Academy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1273 Calks Ferry Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Mr. Miller was born May 25, 1930 in Pawhuska, OK and passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. He was a son of the late Hiram Miller and Beula Allen Miller. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Miller was one of the original drill sergeants to teach drill sergeants at Fort Jackson and he also loved his country. He worked as the Club Coordinator for the Pine Island Club. Mr. Miller was a member of the Masons. He was a cancer survivor and liked to participate in the Relay for Life.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Ruby E. Miller of Lexington; daughter, Darlain Bryson (James) of Lexington; son, Michael D. Miller of San Antonio, TX; sister, Helen Himes of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Amy D. Shaw and Kelly S. Clark (Franklin “Tripp”); great-grandson, Drayton Austin and beloved dog, Crisco. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister.
