Dr. Kaushal Sinha, of Columbia, South Carolina, left his body on November 30, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born in Bande Vishunpur, India on February 10, 1940. Dr. Sinha was the son of Srimati Indirawati Devi and Sri Puneet Sinha.
Dr. Sinha was a renowned, highly skilled Orthopedic Surgeon who served primarily at Lexington Medical Center, where he embraced the role as Chief of the Department during one of the most vulnerable times in the Hospital's history. He was known by his colleagues and staff for his flawless surgical results and candid humor. There was rarely a place Dr. Sinha could go in Columbia where he didn't run into someone he had provided care to and had something funny to say. He practiced for 40 years and gave endless free care to those in need.
Dr. Sinha was born in a small farming village in India where, before him, no one had even gone to college. Alongside his natural intelligence, during his school years, Dr. Sinha was most known for his athletic abilities. He was consistently named “Best in Sports" throughout high school, college, and medical school in track, swimming, and his primary love, soccer.
Dr. Sinha loved supporting his community in numerous ways and was dedicated to providing care (in its many forms) for his patients and community members. He was a loving husband and a deeply committed father who cherished time with family and would go to any lengths to be a supportive presence for his loved ones here and abroad.
Dr. Sinha was the founding Chairman and eventually served as the Chairman Emeritus of the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of South Carolina. He also served as CEO of the seminal and immense Encyclopedia of Hinduism project in partnership with the University of South Carolina which was published in 2010. Although well-connected socially and politically, Dr. Sinha only availed his influence to serve the greater good of the community and the many wonderful projects he spearheaded.
He is survived by his wife, Arunima, and his children, Animesh, Kislaya, and Pallavi.
Dr. Sinha's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the dedicated community of the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of South Carolina, and the dedicated staff of the Lexington Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
