He is survived by his wife of 73 years, June Bowen Suddeth; his children, Mike Suddeth (Kathy), Tommy Suddeth (Donna) and Jo Carol Childers. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Johnson (Marvin). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Joe graduated from Parker High School in 1950. He was a founding member of Ashland United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities during his years in attendance. He was the owner of Suddeth’s Automotive and Suddeth’s Towing in Columbia until his retirement in 2004, served on many industrial organizations and held many offices including president of Automotive Service Association of South Carolina and Towing and Recovery Association of South Carolina. He operated Richland Mall Exxon from 1971 to 1990. He was a lifetime member of Boylston Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. His main hobbies were family and work, but he was an avid collector of teapots and toy trucks.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lighthouse Hospice Group in Irmo for their support during the last few months.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Ashland United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held at same location at 1:00 pm the same day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashland UMC of Columbia or CURE Childhood Cancer.
